Welcome

Welcome to the Wood Materials and Engineering Laboratory at Washington State University. I 'm Don Bender, the Director of the WMEL and a professor in the College of Engineering and Architecture.
The WMEL is an interdisciplinary laboratory administered through that College of Engineering and Architecture. Its five decades of forest products research in cooperation with industry, government agencies, and universities have brought it international acclaim.
The WMEL provides a unified program of research, education, and technology transfer in the areas of composite materials, processing innovations, and enhanced design methodologies for structural performance and public safety.
Our facility is located just off campus at WSU's Research and Technology Park. The lab, at 28,000 sq. ft., is equipped to conduct research in composite materials development through structural testing. Our award winning research has resulted in numerous patents and inventions.
